Discover Mozart's Fortepiano

49:47

With her first concert on Sparrow Live, Marie Kuijken brings a Viennese fortepiano into your living room! You will discover a new sound while listening to classical piano sonatas of J.Haydn & W.A.Mozart played on an instrument just like those they were actually composed for. Enjoy the "Stein" fortepiano of Marie Kuijken, member of a Belgian musical family, internationally renowned for its unconventional path into historical performance practice. After her Conservatory studies, Marie autonomously specialized in the Mozartian fortepiano, playing mainly her own copy of a Stein fortepiano. Over the years, she’s regularly performed in Belgium, Italy, throughout Europe and Turkey (solo recitals; playing in duo with her father baroque violinist Sigiswald Kuijken; with her sister Veronica Kuijken in works for 4 hands/two fortepianos; and singing or accompanying recitals of early Lied). She has made several recordings for Challenge Classics which received international positive reviews. But that's not all... As a soprano, Marie Kuijken specialized in 18th century repertory (baroque, classical and early romantic Lied); she’s given her collaboration to the famous baroque orchestra La Petite Bande in numerous productions over the years, performing sacred music and opera, singing several title roles in comical baroque intermezzi such as Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona and lesser known similar works; roles of Papagena and Barbarina in La Petite Bande’s recordings of Mozarts operas. As this knowledge and practice matured into a comprehensive vision on performance and staging of 18th century opera, Marie Kuijken has naturally evolved into a stage director and expressivity coach for opera singers. From 2012 on, together with Sigiswald Kuijken, Marie Kuijken has been leading the La Petite Bande Academy with its annual international Summer Academy taking place in Italy, where she has coached and staged singers with her unique approach, especially on Mozart and Haydn operatic works. In her free time Marie also enjoys composing and painting. Marie is an all around world class Artist.
